Dragons Abreast Brisbane - Team Missabittatitti

Team Missabittatitti (affectionately known as MBT) are a group of breast cancer survivors who have chosen to improve their health, fitness and wellbeing by taking part in the sport of Dragon Boat Racing. Members of the team are also members of Dragons Abreast Brisbane (DAB) part of the National group Dragons Abreast Australia (DAA). As full members of Brisbane River Dragons, they are able to train and compete at their chosen level, either purely as social paddlers who enjoy a bit of exercise before they breakfast, or training to become more competitive and, as part of BRD compete in State, National and International arenas.

Members of the team have travelled to International Breast Cancer Survivor Regattas in Singapore, China, Vancouver Canada (2005) and Peterborough Canada (2010). They also entered two teams in the International Regatta at Kawana in 2007. More recently they have been involved in the inaugural Queensland DAA Regatta in 2009 and in 2011 fielded two teams in the world first National DAA Regatta in Kawana. MBT members also regularly travel to Sydney for the Chinese New Year Corporate Regatta in Darling Harbour.

Apart from training and paddling as breast cancer survivors, many of the people involved in MBT have enjoyed paddling so much they have decided to stretch themselves to see how far they can go in the competitive world of Dragon Boat with the result they have had significant success with some members travelling to Tampa Florida in August 2011 as part of the Australian Auroras Team to compete in the world titles.

As well as breast cancer survivors, Dragons Abreast Brisbane has a group of supporter members, Pink Connections. This wonderful group has many people who paddle and others who would never pick up a paddle. They provide a great deal of support to the team in a variety of ways including coaching and sweeping for our training sessions or for cross-training in the outriggers; assisting in our fundraising endeavours; providing volunteers for the DAA specific regattas; taking photographs and any of the myriad of tasks needed to keep the team running.
